Development Team
Developement Team Managers
Kev Bunting, Dave Harrowing and Steve Leek
This team played a number of friendlies and remained unbeaten in their games. The team was mainly made up of under 13 and 15 players from our junior sides who have not yet had the opportunity to play senior cricket.
The game against Ilkeston was a game played in very good spirit which was won by 40 runs in the end. Spondon made a poor start losing three quick wickets to attacking shots which did not need to be played. The innings was steadied by three desisive innings from Emma White Joss Walmsley Kian Fox and Jack Hurst who occupied the crease wel and scored runs at a good rate with Joss Walmsley top scoring with 40 runs.
A very good bowling performance reduced Ilkeston to fall well short with some accurate bowling with young Jack Hurst showing some real promise and control with his leg spin.
The game against Alvaston and Boulton on a scorching day showed the managers that these young players had the mental ability to cope in the field for a long period in difficult conditions. Mathew Madely performed well with both bat and ball and seems to be a player to keep our eye and hopefully he will get some opportunity in the senior side this season coming. The side set a total of 164 which looked a little short on a fast A & B outfield but again a very accurate and disciplined bowling performance by such young players saw A & B fall short of their target.
Both games were played in a great spirit with developing young players and we will hopefully be looking to again arrange fixtures with those two clubs.
The club looked to form this team to get some of our younger players with potential to play 40 over cricket and develop the concentration required to play the longer format of the game. James Allen broke into the fourth team and scored a number of 40's in senior cricket towards the end of the season which bodes well for the future. It is hoped that all these young guys will get an opportunity to progress through the ranks here at Spondon
This proved a very valuable exercise by the club and we hope to continue to use the development team to do just that with our juniors. Whilst winning all of our 3 games the most pleasing aspect was the attitude of the guys and how they listened and learnt during the fixtures.
Spondon Cricket Club Is Now Generating Electricity
On September 22nd we switched on 18 Solar PV panels installed on our roof. We are now generating our own electricity using a renewable energy source, helping to reduce the cost of our electricity and reduce our carbon footprint in the community.
