Joe Ashdown

  • Joe has been a star performer at the club since emerging as a promising youngster in the third team at the age of 13 yrs old. He quickly made his way through the clubs teams before becoming a ever present in the clubs first team. He became captain of the first team in 2010 where he led the side to acrediatable third place. Joe is a talented and hard hitting batsmen who is capable of changing a game. His off spin has proved a valuable aspect of the clubs tactics and often see him finishing as one of the league leading wicket takers. Joe is nicknamed Jonty for his outstanding agilty in the field where he leads by example.

  • Ben has been an integral part of the club since emerging as a promising youngster in the 3rd XI at the age of 14 yrs old. He quickly made his way through the clubs 2nd XI and became the 1st XI opening batsmen. This is a role he has made his own over his time at the club. His opening partnership with the now South African Test and IPL player Colin Ingram was a major factor in the clubs Premier League championship. Ben also bowls at a good pace and hits the pitch hard and is a very useful bowler and an option for his captain

  • Honours Derbyshire Academy Player
  • Jack joined Spondon in the summer of 2009 after the club tried to sign him in 2008. The club finally got there man and his hard hitting approach saw him score runs on his debut. Whilst at Ockbrook Jack became a Derbyshire Academy player as an allrounder who hit the ball a long way and turned the ball with his leg spin. After finding his first team opportunities restricted at Ockbrook he moved to Spondon, since that move he has became a permanent fixture in the clubs 1st XI. Jack began to realise his potential in 2010 where the added responsibility of batting at 3 saw him have his most successful year with the bat and saw his game develop into one of the most exciting and destructive batsmen in the league.

  • Nick made his breakthrough into regular first team cricket at the age of 14 and made the dream start having bowled out the reigning champions for 110 in reply Nick hit his first ball in the premier league out of the ground for 6 and with his opening partner knocked the score off for the loss of no wickets. Nick began playing in the clubs 3rd XI where he spent time developing his experience in the middle, after a move to the 2nd XI he quickly found himself opening the batting for the clubs first XI where he has grabbed his opportunity. Nick is a solid opening batsmen with a solid technique and is a real player for the future and yet another product of the clubs strong junior section. Nick bowls the occassional leg spin mainly in the nets these days!!!!

  • Sam has played all his cricet at Spondon and like many of the current team has been a pivitol performer at the club since emerging as a promising youngster in the 3rd XI at the age of 12 yrs old like so many of his teammates- . He quickly made his way through the clubs teams before becoming a ever present in the clubs first team. He became captain of the first team where he led them to the ECB Premier league Title in the clubs 2nd year as a premiership club. In his time as captain the club never finished outside of the top 4. He currently combines the role of Chairmen of Cricket and 1st XI top order batsmen. Sam great strength is his adaptability of his batting where he can either score runs quickly or dig in and grind out an innings making him an important member of the batting line up.

    Spondon Cricket Club Is Now Generating Electricity

    On September 22nd we switched on 18 Solar PV panels installed on our roof. We are now generating our own electricity using a renewable energy source, helping to reduce  the cost of our electricity and reduce our carbon footprint in the community.
